In class with Josef, I have found the him to be an invaluable resource, with a natural ear for the rhythms of language and a formidable imagination. He sees the scope and potential of a piece of work, and his suggestions for new directions, characters, and scenarios to take it in are always both original and apt. Working with him has helped me tremendously; his criticism is always productive and always fair and he addresses a piece of work on its own terms, never foisting his own aesthetic preferences upon it. He is ambitious for other people and invests time and care into isolating problems in their writing and coming up with creative solutions to them. I cannot recommend him highly enough as a tutor with real intellectual clarity, enthusiasm and integrity.

I am currently an undergraduate English Literature student at the University of East Anglia. During my studies I often found myself needing guidance. Joe is a brilliant Tutor. He understands the intricacies of literary criticism, creative writing and the conventions of academic institutions. Joe stimulates my learning instead of just "telling me the answers". He takes a considerate and useful stance on my ideas/learning, addressing me with personally helpful feedback, as opposed to the platitudes often given in seminar groups and lectures.
