About Alex

I am 29 years old and five years ago, I completed my PhD. The subject of my thesis was hip replacements and involved the application of many of the concepts taught during GCSE and A-Levels. During my PhD, I presented at conferences in the UK, America, and Europe and did a lot of tutoring and lecturing, I loved the process of aiding someone in understanding why the world is the way it is and why things behave the way they do.

My interest in science and mathematics runs deep and I hope I can transfer some of that knowledge and passion to you. Before my PhD, I did a mechanical engineering degree and before that, I did maths, biology, and physics at A-level. Now I work as a Product & Innovation Manager. I lead the technical department of the largest UK cavity barrier manufacturer. I have designed and implemented a research and development department and my company.

I am picking up tutoring again because I miss teaching and mentoring students - the feeling of seeing someone get to the point of true understanding of a topic is amazing, and watching them go on to get excellent results and have interesting careers is special.

I have a significant amount of experience lecturing and tutoring at a Russell group university. The content was on complex subjects such as programming, thermofluid dynamics, engineering mathematics, and Mechanics. I have given informal tutoring to kids of friends and family. I am now a Product Innovation Manager where a key skill is the training of staff on complex subjects. I have found a bespoke teaching methodology is best for most age groups. Using the curriculum as the backbone of my teaching - a true understanding of the principles behind the topics is my first objective. This understanding is then supplemented and reinforced through past exam papers so that both true understanding and correct exam technique are present - ensuring successful exam results. I have the most experience lecturing and tutoring university students but I have found the principles I learnt applicable to all age groups.
