About Cecia
My name is Cecia Sanchez, and I am a college student majoring in Spanish and Chicano Studies. I am eager to gain hands-on experience in fields related to Chicano Studies, as I aspire to become an elementary school teacher with a bilingual authorization to teach in Spanish. As a tutor at my community college, I provided individualized academic support to students in subjects such as Spanish, literature, and history. I developed tailored lesson plans that addressed specific learning needs, helping to improve both student comprehension and confidence. This experience solidified my passion for education and gave me valuable skills in differentiation and student engagement. I also worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at MICOP (Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project) in Oxnard, where I assisted in the development and delivery of bilingual educational programs for Mixtec and Indigenous migrant families. In this role, I helped teach basic literacy, Spanish, and English language skills to both children and adults, adapting lessons to meet the unique needs of each participant. My work at MICOP reinforced my commitment to serving marginalized communities and gave me firsthand experience in creating culturally relevant, inclusive curricula.
