About Arina

Develop your English language skills with an experienced teacher

Would you like to develop your vocabulary, speaking, writing, reading or listening skills?

I’m a DELTA-qualified English language teacher with 10 years of teaching experience, working with learners from a wide range of linguistic, cultural and professional backgrounds. I have taught in Australia, Poland and the UK, and have worked with both adults and young learners at different stages of their English-language development.

My approach is centred on understanding what you want to achieve and identifying the language skills that will help you get there. Whether you want to become more confident in conversation, expand your vocabulary, improve your writing, understand texts more easily or strengthen your listening skills, lessons can be shaped around your individual goals.

Developing the four skills — and the vocabulary that connects them

I have extensive experience teaching speaking, listening, reading and writing, both as individual skills and in combination.

For example, we might work on:
• Vocabulary — expanding your range of words and expressions, understanding how they are used in context, and developing the ability to use new language actively
• Speaking — developing fluency, accuracy, pronunciation and confidence through purposeful communication
• Listening — developing strategies for understanding different speakers, accents, speeds of speech and types of spoken English
• Reading — developing comprehension, reading strategies, vocabulary and the ability to understand different types of texts
• Writing — developing structure, vocabulary, grammar, accuracy, style and the ability to communicate ideas effectively

These skills naturally support one another. For example, developing your vocabulary can strengthen both your speaking and writing, while reading and listening provide opportunities to encounter new language in meaningful contexts. Lessons can therefore combine skills where this is useful, rather than treating each area in isolation.

General English and communication

I have taught General English to learners with a wide range of goals, from developing everyday communication to strengthening English for study, work and life in an English-speaking environment.

Lessons can include conversation, vocabulary development, reading and listening activities, writing practice, grammar, pronunciation and work with authentic texts and audio. The balance depends on what you want to develop and how you use English in your life.

I also have extensive experience teaching Business English and English for Specific Purposes to professionals working in fields including psychology, education, accounting, geology, environmental science, engineering, law, UX, design, marketing, branding and HR.

Academic English and writing

Alongside General English, I have extensive experience developing academic writing and study skills.

I have worked with learners on essays, reports, reflective and critical analysis, grant proposals and multimodal assignments, including developing structure, vocabulary, grammar, style, research, referencing, drafting, proofreading and editing.

I also have experience teaching reading comprehension, literary analysis and persuasive and creative writing, including work with school-age learners preparing for school entrance examinations and GCSE English Language.

Examination experience

I have prepared learners for a wide range of English-language examinations, including IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency and OET.

This experience has given me a detailed understanding of the different language skills and strategies required across examination contexts.

Experience across cultures and age groups

I have taught continuously since 2016, in Sydney, Kraków and London, and have worked with learners from many different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

I value creating a positive learning environment in which learners can ask questions, experiment with language, practise new skills and develop greater independence and confidence.

English

A lesson built around the English you want to develop

Before we meet, you can tell me about your goals, context and the situations in which you use English. I then consider what will be most useful for you and prepare the lesson around your specific goals and needs.

Lessons can focus on one particular area or combine several skills. For example, you might want to:

• develop your vocabulary for everyday, academic or professional communication
• practise speaking and become more confident expressing yourself in English
• strengthen your listening and develop strategies for understanding spoken English
• improve your reading and work with different types of texts
• develop your writing, from everyday communication to academic or professional writing
• work on several of these areas together, allowing speaking, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary to reinforce one another
• bring a particular question, piece of writing, text, or situation that you would like to work on

Lessons are structured and purposeful, with activities chosen for a reason and connected to the English you actually need to use. I can provide lesson plans, resources, homework and detailed feedback where these will support your progress. As you develop, I can adjust the focus and level of challenge to reflect your changing needs.
