About Deirdre

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am very familiar with the new GCSE English exam and requirements, having been working with students this year who are studying for the exams coming up in June and July.
I have taught English & Drama in the UK and in Australia.
I have been a coach / counsellor in schools for 5 years, working with both pupils and teachers.
I have previously worked with home educator families and have helped parents develop suitable education programs to meet their children's needs and to reach national standards.
I am a published poet and a specialist in teaching the plays of William Shakespeare.

About the lesson

I have 25 years' experience of teaching English: years 7 - 12. I have been a private tutor for most of the years, working with pupils from years 3 - 12. I am also a qualified Life Coach and have many techniques to develop confidence in students.

Secondary
Key stage 3 – (Reading for understanding and comprehension, clear & coherent writing skills, syntax, writing for a range of purposes, oral presentation)
Key stage 4 – Reading for understanding and comprehension, clear & coherent essay writing skills, syntax, writing for a range of purposes, oral presentation, understanding literature (poetry, prose and plays), vocabulary extension, figurative language, exam preparation.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Degree, in English, as well as a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary). Both from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland.

I have a post graduate Diploma of Life Coaching from The Coaching Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

- How much do you charge?

My fees range from £30 - 40 for a 75 minute session, depending on the age of the student and what level we will be working at.

I am available to do group lessons for 2 - 10 students. We can negotiate the price for this, depending on the level we will be working at. Starting at 10% less per person than one to one tuition.

If required to travel beyond 15 miles from Leeds, there will be a travel charge.

- Where do you teach?

I can teach students in their homes if within a 5 mile radius from Leeds.
I can teach up to a group of 3 students in my own home if that is convenient for families.
I offer tutoring in the Leeds environs, Bradford, Wakefield and up to 15 miles outside the city. Beyond this will incur additional travel costs.

I offer SKYPE tutoring.

- When are you available?

I am available for tutoring Monday - Thursday afternoons and evenings up to 8pm in Leeds, 6.30pm if travelling out of the city, and Saturday mornings 9am - 12pm.
I am available for SKYPE tutoring at negotiated hours as per above.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach students from 7 years - young adult, college and university.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

All school key stages.
Pre and first year university.
Essay writing and editing dissertations.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I offer tutoring online via SKYPE.
I offer email tutoring for skills such as essay writing skills development and editing.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Hi there. I am interested in helping you become more skilled at, and confident in, your writing, reading and comprehension skills. I have been doing this with students here in the UK and in Australia for many years. I believe all young people have amazing potential to learn and become whatever they want to be. Sometimes we need a bit extra help to do that and I am really good at finding out where people need that help. I hope we can start work to get you moving forward some day soon!
