After you learn the piece and practice, you prepare for the three "c's of performance: concentration - (I know this.), control - (I can do this.), and confidence (I am good at this, and I will perform it well. I am not afraid to make a mistake.) and then begin. I want the audience to enjoy this performance.

Every session starts with performance. I introduce the piece to the student. The student learns it, practices it becomes comfortable with it and becomes confident that he can perform it. Since art is emotional expression and communication, I discuss what emotion the piece is supposed to elicit and communicate. Did you feel it? How did you communicate it? Then I discuss with the student how to read the piece and the theory behind it. Why does it sound good - or emotional. Did you make the instrument an emotional instrument of art? Finally, perform the piece by adding parts that you think make the piece sound better. Write your newly created portions into the prepared script. Next add it to the major production.
