About Marissa
About Me
I am a dedicated reading tutor with a deep passion for helping learners discover their strengths and grow into confident, capable readers. My background includes extensive experience working with students of different ages, abilities, and learning styles, and I bring a calm, patient, and encouraging presence to every session. I believe that every student can succeed when they are given the right tools, the right support, and a learning environment where they feel safe to try, make mistakes, and improve.
My teaching style blends structure with creativity. I rely on research-based literacy practices, but I also make room for fun, curiosity, and meaningful connection. I take time to understand each student as an individual — their goals, challenges, interests, and the way they learn best — so I can tailor lessons that truly meet their needs. Whether a student is struggling with foundational skills or aiming to strengthen higher-level comprehension, I guide them step by step with clarity, patience, and genuine care.
What motivates me most is seeing students gain confidence. Watching a learner go from “I can’t do this” to “I understand this now” is the heart of why I teach. I’m committed to helping students not only improve their reading skills but also build resilience, independence, and a renewed belief in themselves.

I use a student‑centered, evidence‑based approach that adapts to each learner’s needs. My methods include:
• Diagnostic assessment to identify strengths, gaps, and learning patterns
• Structured literacy techniques for decoding, fluency, and comprehension
• Scaffolded instruction, breaking skills into manageable steps
• Multisensory activities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to reinforce learning
• Real‑world reading practice to build confidence and independence
• Positive reinforcement to help students feel capable and motivated
My goal is to make reading feel accessible, engaging, and empowering, no matter the student’s starting point.
