My lessons are built around a book we read together. Books of choice are cited below with intentions of every skill (speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, writing) coming out of it.

Warm-up chat (5-10 minutes): Casual conversation about the client's day or a recap of last session. This gets them speaking before the "work" starts.

Pre-reading (5 minutes): We preview the day's pages by looking at the title or chapter heading, predicting what happens, and pre-teaching 3-5 tricky words.

Guided reading aloud (15-20 minutes): The client reads aloud while I note pronunciation, stress, and intonation. I model tricky sentences, then they repeat them (echo reading and shadowing). I correct gently, after they finish a sentence, to keep their flow.

Comprehension and discussion (10-15 minutes): Open-ended questions, not just yes/no, such as "Why do you think the character did that?" or "What would you do?" The client retells the section in their own words. This is the main speaking practice.

Writing task (10-15 minutes): A short, low-pressure task tied to the reading, such as a 3-5 sentence summary, a journal entry from a character's point of view, or a new ending. I give feedback on grammar, word choice, and clarity right away.

Wrap-up (5 minutes): Recap the new words, note one thing they did well and one thing to work on, and assign light homework (reread a paragraph, write 3 sentences using new vocabulary).

Techniques I use:

Echo reading and shadowing: I read a line, they mirror my rhythm and tone.

Minimal pair drills: For sounds that are commonly confused (ship/sheep, think/sink, v/b).

Recasting: I repeat their sentence correctly without interrupting or embarrassing them.

Vocabulary journal: New words are saved with a sentence the client writes themselves.

Retelling and 3-2-1 summaries: 3 key points, 2 interesting details, 1 question.

Voice recordings: The client records a paragraph at the start and again after a few weeks so they can hear their progress.

Choosing the book (matched to age and interest):
Ages 6-9: Picture books for early readers (The Cat in The Hat, The Lorax by Dr. Seuss)
Ages 10-14: Unbelievable! by Paul Jennings
Ages 15-18: The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe
Ages 19-25: Animal Farm/1984 by George Orwell, short stories or essays, plus news articles and speeches

The client has a say in the choice and can suggest books they would already have or prefer to read, because someone who enjoys the book reads more and talks more. Enthusiasm in their book of choice also helps greatly as they will be given time to retell the story at their own pace.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor!

Communication is my field. As a 3rd-year Communications student, I study public speaking, media writing, and interpersonal communication. I teach clients how to express ideas clearly, confidently, and with the right tone.

We learn from real books, not worksheets. Grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation are taught in context, so they stick better and the lessons never feel like drills.

All three skills in every lesson. Reading, speaking, and writing support each other: they read it, say it, then write it.

I'm close in age to my clients and am more inclined to casual speech so everyone is comfortable. I remember what it feels like to be self-conscious about speaking English, so my sessions are patient, encouraging, and judgment-free. Mistakes are treated as part of learning.

Personalized and flexible. The book, pace, and focus areas (pronunciation, confidence, essay writing, vocabulary) are tailored to each client's goals.

Visible progress. I track recordings, vocabulary lists, and writing samples so clients and parents can see improvement over time.

Who the Lessons Are For?

Age: 25 and below, from young children (around 6) through teens to college students and young adults.

Level: Beginner to upper-intermediate (roughly A1-B2). I adjust book difficulty, vocabulary, and speed to each learner.

Ideal clients:

Elementary and high school students who want stronger reading fluency, spelling, and confidence in class.

College students who struggle with essays, thesis writing, reports, or oral presentations.

Young adults (18-25) preparing for job interviews, internships, or workplace communication.

Shy or hesitant speakers who understand English but freeze when they have to speak. We will build your confidence!

Learners who want to fix pronunciation, build vocabulary, or become more natural readers and writers.

Parents looking for a friendly, engaging tutor who makes English feel less intimidating. I am a young Gen-Z girl at the end of the day so learning will be just as fun and smooth as an afternoon tea!

Lesson format: One-on-one sessions online, with a book chosen together.
