I have a very hierarchical approach to teaching language literacy.
Beginning with phonics, I would do auditory intervention by having my student substitute beginning sounds in words. For example, "say 'map'; now say 'map' but say /t/ instead of /m/. The goal is for the child to associate individual phonemes in CVC words and gradually advance. I would then move on to visual cues of having the child spell the word by substituting different graphemes. I am extremely patient with children learning phonics and working on reading comprehension. I believe I could effectively work with k-5 students specifically with language literacy.
