About Chandler

I really hope to work to get to know students as people, and I think that begins with sharing a bit about myself. My name is Chandler, I am considering pursuing a degree in English, and I enjoy game design, cooking, and painting in my free time. I have tutored scholars from elementary school through high school in a multitude of subjects throughout the past 4 years, but I have most often found that English is a domain that many struggle with. Academic English can feel really restricting to those who have grown up speaking alternative dialects, or who learned English after their native language, but also to those who were simply never given the tools and support to develop fluency. My most successful sessions with students have shown not only a visible, numerical grade increase, but also a tangible confidence that translates into their understanding of English reading and writing, and I attribute that achievement to this basic understanding. Not to mention, everyone needs help with English sometimes (including me!). Language learning is never entirely innate, and my job is simply to fill in areas where we find that disconnect together.

About the lesson

I have a lot of experience working with students who have ADHD, and this has allowed me to develop strategies around any variety of learning styles. I am more than happy to cater our sessions to whatever you‘re looking to focus on! A typical session with me would begin by getting to know you and figuring out exactly which area(s) you’re struggling in; this allows us to most effectively communicate ideas and concepts with one another. Moving forward, we would work together to strengthen those target areas and address anything else that you find important, while using any available time to strategize for future. I heavily encourage taking short breaks when you need them, as studies have proven that learning only improves when we listen to the needs of our body when working. A break should be a period of recovery, and I don’t judge if a break to you looks like texting someone back, or taking a minute to browse through Tiktok, or resting your head, or anything else. This session is meant to be for you as a learner, and I am happy to support whatever that looks like for you.
