About Olivia
I spent years performing professionally on cruise ships, traveling through numerous Spanish-speaking ports and building genuinely practical language skills along the way through real, constant travel. Eight years into teaching now, I've worked with about one hundred fifty students, most of them travelers or people wanting genuinely practical, real-world Spanish rather than purely academic training. My cruise ship background gives me unusually broad, practical insight into exactly what actually helps a traveler navigate confidently in Spanish across many different regions and contexts. I work particularly well with students preparing for travel or relocation, since that's exactly the situation I lived through myself constantly for years professionally. My teaching style is practical and scenario-based, built on real, lived travel experience rather than textbook assumptions about what travelers supposedly need. I have guided numerous students toward genuine, practical confidence, drawing on real international experience rather than generic classroom assumptions about travel Spanish. Students consistently tell me they appreciate the practical, real-world focus, feeling genuinely more prepared than after generic classroom Spanish elsewhere previously. I take genuine pride in helping students build the same confident, adaptable Spanish that served me constantly throughout years of international travel. After eight years, I remain genuinely passionate about this practical teaching approach.

Years performing on cruise ships across many Spanish-speaking ports taught me genuinely practical, travel-focused Spanish, and that background shapes how I teach the language today. Lessons focus heavily on real travel and hospitality scenarios, ordering food, navigating a new port, chatting with locals, the exact situations I personally navigated constantly during years of international travel. Vocabulary is entirely practical, built around travel, hospitality, and quick, confident everyday interaction rather than abstract or overly academic material. I run realistic roleplay constantly, practising exactly how a real conversation in a new port or with new colleagues genuinely unfolds, including the unexpected moments. Listening practice uses genuine accents and natural speaking speed, since ports and colleagues never spoke slowly or clearly for anyone's convenience during actual travel. I teach students how to quickly pick up useful local phrases in any new place, a skill years of constantly changing ports taught me mattered enormously for real, practical confidence. Cultural context receives real attention too, since understanding local customs mattered constantly moving between completely different Spanish-speaking ports and communities regularly. Confidence-building stays central, since hesitation caused far more real problems during my own travels than actual vocabulary gaps ever did. Every lesson stays genuinely practical and travel-focused throughout, built from real, lived international experience.
