About Marissa

Hi! I'm Marissa, a credentialed California teacher and reading intervention specialist with experience supporting elementary and middle school students across a wide range of learning needs. Throughout my career, I have helped students strengthen their reading, writing, comprehension, and overall academic confidence using evidence-based instructional practices.

I am trained in structured literacy approaches, including the Science of Reading, and I believe every student can succeed when instruction is personalized, engaging, and supportive. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and goal-oriented, creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and growing their skills.

Whether your child needs targeted reading support, help with writing, homework assistance, or additional academic enrichment, I am committed to helping them make meaningful progress while building confidence that extends beyond the classroom.

About the lesson

My lessons are grounded in evidence-based instructional practices, including the Science of Reading, structured literacy, and explicit, systematic teaching methods that help students build lasting skills and confidence. Every lesson is tailored to the student's unique strengths, needs, and learning goals.

A typical session begins with a quick review of previously learned concepts, followed by targeted instruction, guided practice, and opportunities for independent application. I use ongoing assessment and progress monitoring to ensure students are making meaningful growth and to adjust instruction as needed.

I specialize in helping elementary and middle school students strengthen reading comprehension, phonics, fluency, writing, vocabulary, and overall academic confidence. I also support English learners and students who benefit from additional scaffolding and personalized instruction.

What sets me apart is my experience as both a classroom teacher and reading intervention specialist. I combine proven instructional methods with a patient, encouraging approach that helps students feel successful, engaged, and motivated to learn. My goal is not only to improve academic performance but also to help students become confident, independent learners.
