About Downey
I am a credentialed math teacher with classroom experience teaching a range of high school math courses. My background in education allows me to understand both the academic expectations students face and the challenges that can make math feel overwhelming. I approach tutoring with patience, structure, and encouragement, focusing on helping students build confidence alongside strong problem-solving skills. As both an educator and a coach, I value consistency, effort, and growth. My lessons focus on helping students truly understand math rather than memorizing steps. I begin each session by identifying gaps in understanding, then break concepts down into clear, manageable pieces using real examples and guided practice. I emphasize organization, problem-solving habits, and confidence so students feel prepared in class and on assessments. Lessons are designed for middle school and high school students, including Algebra, Geometry, and higher-level math. My classroom experience allows me to adapt instruction to each student’s learning style and academic goals.
