About Marcela
A good teacher is always evolving. Looking back, I would not teach like I did 15 years ago because learner styles change. Podium-style teaching (lectures, notes, tests) does not favor understanding or comprehension. A focus on learning styles, project-based learning, and social-emotional needs will ensure student success. My 10-years experience as PK to 8th grade Principal allowed me to observe all grade levels and evaluate student performance. I was able to track various learning styles in varying levels. Observing the teachers made it easy to stay updated in the most current education strategies.

Having been a teacher for 15 years in a private school, I fully realize that each student learns differently. That is why I like to begin tutoring by talking candidly to the student and identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses. This process involves gathering information such as parent opinions and school teachers' evaluations/observations. Based on that information, I can determine the best approach for lesson planning. I am very comfortable with accommodating to achieve understanding. My specialty is middle-school level ELAR, English Language and Reading, and middle-school level Social Studies. I have also taught Spanish/English to adults.

Prior to working as an educator and Principal at a top private school in El Paso, I taught in Juarez, Mexico as an ESL Tutor and an ESL teacher for adults in the twin-plant industry.
