About Pietro
When I started lecturing modules on Italian culture and literature, I understood how these activities are vital to my development as a scholar, as teaching offers a unique set of heterogeneous experiences that foster a nuanced understanding of the subject matter, and to my personal formation, allowing me to develop skills in disseminating knowledge through diverse methods and audiences. Moreover, teaching enabled me to leverage my heterogeneous academic background. I hold a BA in the History of Contemporary Italy and an MA in World History from the University of Bologna. These experiences equipped me with methodologies in historical research and deep academic knowledge of Italian history. During my PhD, I further expanded my research on Twentieth-Century Italian Literature, developing skills in literary and discourse analysis, and postcolonial theory.

I have been teaching Italian language, history and culture at Durham University since 2022. This year I applied for the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (outcome expected in September). My lessons last one hour and are developed according to the subject matter. My approach to language is exercise-centred, while for culture and literature, I allow the student to engage with primary sources and build knowledge from these.
