About Asha

I am a professional musician with an active profile as both a performer and composer, blending Jazz, Classical, and world music traditions. Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with first-class honours in 2020, I've performed with my fusion band, Kalapdruma, and other projects, including the Sam Eastmond Big Band and Issie Barratt's INTERCHANGE, at high-profile venues like Ronnie Scott's and Swanage Jazz Festival. My debut EP 'Onwards' received positive reviews in leading UK publications such as Jazzwise, and my first full-length album 'Possession' will be released by Ubuntu Music in September 2024.

In 2020, I was commissioned by Jazz South to write a twenty-minute piece that brought together Syrian musicians, my band, and the powerful feminist words of Syrian poet Maram Al-Masri. I will be starting my master's in composition at the University of Oxford in October 2024. I have also served as an assistant lecturer for the University of Kent's musical outreach module (2023, 2024) and am passionate about the role of music in the wider community. I love working as an educator alongside my creative practice, making music accessible to all.

About the lesson

With eight years of experience teaching music in both private and peripatetic settings, I've taught all ages, from young children to adults. I tailor my lessons to individual goals, whether it's achieving Grade 6 saxophone or playing favorite tunes for fun. My holistic approach to music combines technique with creativity and musicianship, avoiding rote learning. Lessons typically last 30 minutes for beginners, 45 minutes for intermediates, and one hour for advanced students.

Fluent in French and Spanish, I'm familiar with the structure and criteria of GCSE and A-level exams and can help students build a strong foundation and achieve fluency.
