About Brandan
As a Communication student, I have developed a strong command of the English language. While I appreciate the open-ended nature of English, I understand that this is often where students encounter the most difficulty. Unlike subjects such as Mathematics and Science, which rely on clear formulas and structured methods, English can feel more interpretive and subjective in its grading.
However, I believe English can be taught in a similarly structured way. By introducing clear techniques and step-by-step approaches, students can learn to analyze and break down texts more effectively, and approach English papers with greater confidence and clarity.
For Creative Writing and Oral, I like to utilize media such as video games and films as teaching tools. Having personally used these in my own learning, I find them effective in helping students expand their vocabulary and refine their diction in an engaging and enjoyable way.
All in all, while English may appear more interpretive than its alphanumeric-based subject counterparts, I believe that similar formulas and strategies can help students approach it in a structured, methodical way, enabling them to analyze questions more effectively and with greater confidence.
I have also developed strong interpersonal skills that enable me to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including young learners. I am confident in my ability to build strong rapport with students and create a supportive, engaging environment where they feel comfortable sharing their challenges and are motivated to learn.
As for my own experiences, I have had the opportunity to host a range of events, including (concealed information) Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s 60th Anniversary Event, and Honour Film Screening 2023. I have also gone live on air on 987FM, further strengthening my communication and presentation skills.

My teaching philosophy centers on helping students develop a mindset that is not afraid of making mistakes. Nowadays, I have observed that many students become distraught when they make mistakes, which hinders their confidence and desire to learn. When students become overly result-oriented, I find that it can have a negative effect. Rather than seeking to resolve the gaps in their understanding, they become more frustrated with their perceived limitations.
I believe that students learn most effectively through trial and error. Making mistakes allows them to identify areas for improvement and deepen their understanding. As such, I hope to dispel this fear and instead cultivate a sense of curiosity, where students possess an innate drive to explore the “why” behind their mistakes and learn from them.
With constant revisions and practice, students will be empowered and confident when approaching their assignments.
Having been registered under the Relief Educator Scheme and the Outdoor Adventure Educator Scheme, I have had the opportunity to work with students across diverse settings and environments. Through these experiences, I have engaged students in meaningful and interactive lessons that support both their academic progress and holistic development.
