About Stephen

I graduated from University of South Carolina in May 2021 with a major in Biology, but I have always had a love for history, writing, philosophy and literature. Regarding writing and literature, I have never scored below an A in these classes, and I have only acquired one B in my history career - the rest being A's. I love helping people, and the feeling of seeing someone "click" as they begin to understand a concept is a magical experience. Tutoring is a perfect outlet for me to truly support people in achieving their goals, and getting to be a part of that - however infinitesimally small my role - is a wonderful thing.

About the lesson

As an experienced tutor, I have quickly learned that a "single-approach method" is a lazy and ineffective way of teaching anything. Because of this I center my lessons around the individual, finding areas that could be improved and focusing on those specifically. Similarly, I know that each individual works at their own pace and in their own way, and part of the reason I love tutoring is to find out the best path to take based on my students' strengths and weaknesses, and moving forward from there; I find this to be the most effective strategy for tutoring students.

My lesson plan is loosely based off of the student's needs. I cover all areas of English and writing, from elementary school all the way to the college level.

I am a successful writer academically, and have never achieved below an A in any writing or English based class. I am very patient, and am willing to work with any student to try and help the succeed. I am hardworking and flexible, and I hope to receive the opportunity to help you accomplish your goals!

I wouldn't have gotten through multivariable calc without Stephen's help! In the beginning of my course, I struggled with math anxiety and never knew how to start solving problems. Stephen helped me overcome my hesitation by working through tons of problems with me and by showing me the similarities between various problem types. I can't thank him enough!

He really takes the time to tutor to your specific needs. I'm learning disabled, and Steven was able to take the time needed to thoroughly explain various concepts. I highly recommend Steven, for STEM courses especially.

He's the most patient tutor I've ever had, and didn't mind approaching the same subject a million different ways until I was confident that I understood everything. My rates are fairly standard, offering the first lesson free as a sample of my tutoring abilities. I also offer bundles at a discount if you are pleased with my service. I offer lessons within my home for no additional fees, as well as online sessions for a $1 discount. I am also happy to drive to your location for a small transportation fee of $5; although this is variable depending on your location. If you cancel within 24 hours of our appointment, you will receive back 50% of what was initially paid for our session.
