About Joshua

I didn’t start out wanting to be a software engineer—I first dreamed of becoming a designer, then a games designer. Along the way, I discovered coding, and I quickly fell in love with it. That passion led me into an apprenticeship, where I gained formal training, and since then I’ve had the opportunity to work across many different areas of the software industry. What I’ve found is that I’ve always enjoyed teaching and mentoring. Too often, coding is presented as something mysterious and overly complicated—something “only for geniuses.” I don’t believe that’s true. With the right guidance, curiosity, and direction, anyone can learn to code and even excel at it. Now, after 8 years in the field, I’m at a stage in my life where I want to give back. Teaching and mentoring feels like the natural next step in my journey, and I’m excited to help others unlock their potential by building real projects, solving real problems, and gaining skills they can carry into their own careers.

About the lesson

My lessons are non-formal, flexible, and student-driven. Instead of rigid exercises, we’ll focus on projects that align with your interests so that what you build feels relevant and motivating. As you progress, you’ll be encouraged to adopt more innovative and complex solutions, gaining the confidence to tackle real-world problems. Every project will be something you can showcase in a portfolio, giving you a tangible record of your growth & strong start in a software development career if they choose. You’ll be working with the same professional tools I’ve used for the past 10 years, with plenty of freedom to explore and experiment. I’ll encourage you to use a variety of tools and resources while developing the critical skill of independent problem-solving.
