About Karina

Hola- I’m Señora Karina! Im an advanced and experienced Spanish teacher here to deliver real language results to meet your Spanish goals.
I am native to the seacoast of New Hampshire, where I first learned Spanish through the typical remedial high school courses. Armed with basic Spanish, I then spent years living in Central America, where I eventually learned to speak authentic Spanish fluently; a struggle and joy I strive to share with my students.
I am lucky to be a mother of four children who are all bilingual. My own language journey- as well as the experience of watching my children’s language acquisition process- informs my classroom teaching, allowing me to develop a unique, evidence-based approach to natural language learning.
I have taugh Spanish both privately and in the classroom for over 15 years, and I genuinely love sharing the Spanish language. Vamos!

About the lesson

-If drilling lists of vocabulary, and mindless repetition has not worked for you in the past, join the club! Over years of teaching and observing learners, I have developed a non-traditional, more natural approach to Spanish learning, based on ACTFL proficiency standards.
In additional to traditional grammar-informed lesson, I integrate elements of Comprehensible Input, meaning we will also emphasize authentic communication through meaningful repetition, using visual and audio aids, and manipulative when posible. In my class, you have permission to be silly and enjoy learning, while gaining respect towards Spanish-speaking cultures, places, and people. Results always guaranteed!

As your teacher, I strive to meet you exactly where you are as a language learner, and work side-by-side with you as we challenge you to achieve your language goals. No goals are too ambitious! (-or specific!)

Instructional time is typically more like 45 minutes, though we will allot 1 hour, which will include some basic independent home practice work to support and enforce in class instruction. This is optional but highly recommended.
