About Ben
I am from Kansas City, currently finishing my degree in Music Composition from a renowned conservatory in Spain. I love, in the truest sense of the word, music. I have had one my goal since I was 10 or so (after being a ninja revealed itself to be in shockingly low demand), which was to create my own music - and the last seventeen years have been a constant series of goals accomplished and new realizations of just how much I still have to grow.

I am a classical composer, pianist, and a huge music theory nerd. My style of teaching is based on the musical education of Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, and many more composers. I use the same book they used, and, like their teachers, I emphasize the importance of listening. This may sound obvious, but unfortunately theory is now too often taught as a series of arbitrary rules. When you leave my lessons you will understand phenomenologically (from your ears' perspective, not your brain's) why parallel fifths and octaves are usually avoided, and when they are acceptable, and much much more! I am so excited to work with you - every musician has the ability to learn and enjoy music theory.
