About Fergus
I am incredibly passionate about art, history, and philosophy. I am enthusiastic, and highly motivated to help you achieve your study goals, while also providing an experience of these subjects that goes beyond the academic into our perceptions of the world and its wonders.
I specialised in Hellenistic Greek art at University, which then sparked extensive research into the Renaissance and beyond. I enjoy debate, believe testing ideas is the best way to prove them (right or wrong), and I am looking for engaged, ambitious students. I also hope to provide a more holistic view of these topics, and inform on the many ways these subjects interlink and impact each other.

I am a firm believer that presentation and verbal explanation of ideas is the best demonstration of aptitude. My lessons are often conversational, with debate and discussion providing the foundation of the learning. I will present relevant artistic styles, pieces, theories and individuals in a brief lecture form, before deeper discussion begins regarding how they fit within the wider artistic context.
It is also crucial that students grasp argumentation, essay styles, and balance within their writing. Therefore included in any series of lessons is an emphasis on how to translate research, observation and discussion into a successful theory and proof.
I have tutored many people between the ages of 16 and 22, as I have a MA degree and can coach anyone up to and including Undergraduate level.
