About Alanna
I am a professional clarinetist and clarinet instructor. I've been playing the clarinet for over 14 years and I've performed throughout the Southeastern region of the U.S., some states in the Midwest, and even traveled to Colombia to perform as a soloist and teach a master class. I have been teaching applied clarinet lessons for at least 7 years and I've taught over 20 students. Most of them have passed their woodwind juries and/or succeeded at auditions, and the others simply enjoyed learning more about the clarinet and its musical capabilities!

I hold a Bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis in clarinet from Northwestern State University, along with a Master's degree in Clarinet Performance from Truman State University. I teach applied clarinet lessons to all ages and I teach various styles of playing ranging from Classical and Romantic to New Music, along with extended techniques of the clarinet. In my courses, I like to help the student understand the historical and technical context of various concepts and pieces, so I assign either reading assignments, research assignments, or technical exercises to help them piece together the various aspects of playing. I also like to assign various fundamental exercises and etudes in order to help students better grasp specific concepts such as long tones, scales and scale patterns, voicing, musicality, finger dexterity, etc. Most importantly, I wish to instill a love and passion for music within my students by providing a positive and encouraging learning environment for them, so that they may view music as a safe space for self-growth and self-expression.
