About Jieyin

I am native in Cantonese and Mandarin and certified with CTCSOL (Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages). I would love to give interactive and fun Chinese tutoring with a student-centred approach and to help students prepare for their exams.
I am also advanced in English (IELTS 7.5), Japanese (N2), and basic Spanish. Regarding my academic background, I finished a B.S. in Applied Psychology at the University of Jinan, China; an M.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience in second language development at the East China Normal University, China; and a 2-year graduate program study in Cognitive Neuroscience in language development with dyslexia at the University of Connecticut, USA. While I was doing my research projects, I had the opportunity to teach Chinese to participants from different countries (UK, USA, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Pakistan, Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica) and the research work was published as “How characters are learned leaves its marks on the neural substrates of Chinese Reading. (2022) eNeuro 9 (6)”.
I have always been passionate about studying and teaching a language, and I did postgraduate programs and academic research in this field. I have studied and worked as a neuroscience researcher in the USA for 2 years and in China for 5 years. Although I have little teaching experience in teaching Chinese, I had various teaching experiences. I am currently taking CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses in which I am training to teach English in a student-oriented approach to speakers of other languages (all adults). I was a teaching assistant for university students (ages 18-22) in the MATLAB course. Besides, I also worked as a psychological teacher in primary school (ages 6-12).
In terms of working and living abroad, I have worked abroad for 4 years. I have rich travel experiences in America, Latin America and Asia. I travelled and lived in Europe back in 2019.
I like mixology, reading books, and spending time with the cats in my free time. I am also into running training and am currently training for my second marathon. I like travelling, seeing nature, and meeting interesting people, which also comes along with my current lifestyle as a digital nomad. I have been travelling/studying/working in the U.S., Central America, and South America for the past five years.

About the lesson

I would love to provide a student-centred class with interactive pronunciation and vocabulary, listening and reading activities, followed by productive writing and speaking activities. Materials can be textbooks that are more structured for beginners and authentic materials that help with the actual life context. Based on your needs, we can modify the materials and areas to focus on. Different levels are welcomed.
