About Evan

I am an American, native speaker of English, who has studied Spanish for over 20 years in academic and real world settings. I went to Boston University on a near-100% scholarship where I studied Spanish among other subjects, and studied abroad in Spain for a full academic year before returning to work in Madrid after graduation. Since then, I have become a certified Spanish teacher in Philadelphia, PA & returned to Spain numerous times for work opportunities teaching Spanish to high school students.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is mainly focused on the individual needs and abilities of my students, attuned to their skill level and catered to be of interest and use to them in their journey of language learning. In my opinion, if what you are learning does not spark joy, curiosity, or wonder, you probably will not be very proficient at learning it.

Lorena was right on time and motivated to improve her score on the Praxis Core Writing Exam during our first session together. She shared about her life and what had led her to pursue teaching Spanish to students in the U.S. after having spent her early childhood in Spain, a country very close to my heart. We discussed her previous experience with taking the exam, and with writing in English in general, and made a plan to meet again soon after completing some diagnostic exams independently. I really look forward to seeing Lorena pass this exam with flying colors!
