About Jessica

I am a certified English Language Arts teacher with more than 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring middle and high school students. Throughout my career, I have worked with students at a variety of ability levels, from those who need additional academic support to students looking to strengthen their skills and achieve higher academic goals.

I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenging material without feeling judged or overwhelmed. My teaching style is patient, structured, and encouraging. I take the time to identify where a student is struggling and explain concepts in clear, manageable steps.

My areas of expertise include reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, and test preparation. I help students strengthen their ability to analyze texts, identify central ideas and themes, make inferences, use textual evidence, understand an author's purpose, and develop well-organized narrative, informative, and argumentative writing.

As both a classroom teacher and tutor, I understand that every student learns differently. I adapt my instruction to the individual student rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Most importantly, I want my students to leave tutoring feeling more capable than when they arrived. My goal is not simply to improve a grade or prepare for a test, but to help students develop the skills, strategies, and confidence to become stronger, more independent learners.

About the lesson

I am a certified English Language Arts teacher with more than 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring middle and high school students. I specialize in helping students become stronger, more confident readers and writers while developing the skills they need to succeed in the classroom and on assessments.

My tutoring is structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I work with students on reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary, grammar, writing, critical thinking, and test-taking strategies. I also help students learn how to identify central ideas and themes, make inferences, analyze characters and author’s purpose, use text evidence effectively, and strengthen narrative, informative, and argumentative writing.

As a classroom teacher, I understand that students often need more than additional practice—they need concepts explained in a way that makes sense to them. I break skills into manageable steps, model strategies, practice them together with the student, and then help the student apply those skills independently.

I tutor middle and high school students, including students who need additional academic support as well as those looking to strengthen their skills, improve their grades, or prepare for important assessments.

My goal is not simply to help a student complete an assignment. I want students to understand what they are doing, build confidence in their abilities, and develop skills they can continue using long after tutoring ends.
