About En Qi

As a Malaysian with Chinese as my mother tongue, multilingualism has always been my identity. English and Malay were my primary languages throughout primary and secondary school.

In 2023, I earned a BA in English and a TEFL qualification while in 2022 I completed my CELTA. I got an IELTS 8.0. My teaching career began in summer schools as an English teacher and later transitioned to an Activity Leader role. Currently, I’m the Operations Manager based in Coventry, UK.

I’ve noticed a strong interest in studying Mandarin or Chinese but also a common sense of demotivation when faced with perceived challenges. I’m confident in my ability to simplify the learning process and guide learners towards success step by step.

About the lesson

As a graduate in CELTA and TEFL, my teaching methodology revolves around Communicative Language Teaching and Task-based language learning. I begin each lesson with a warm-up to elicit student responses. Then I present a text, either for reading or listening, and ask learners to predict the meaning of a few key words. I provide accompanying pictures to help them formulate their own answers. After discussing about five words, I encourage learners to incorporate them into our conversations. This approach provides hints while fostering an active learning environment. Lessons are suitable for beginners of all ages and typically last an hour.
