About Brett
I've spent a lot of my adult life analyzing, studying, and practicing languages, especially living abroad, and often outside of my comfort zone. A part of language classes means being outside of your comfort zone, but at the same time, I create an atmosphere where you are comfortable making and learning from your mistakes. There's lots you can expect from me as your tutor! You can expect me to: - be well-prepared - have a strong analytical understanding of English grammar - give careful attention to your language needs - create personalized lessons - check the progress of your goals and review topics that give you difficulties - give you lots of fun homework after every lesson Outside of teaching, I spend my free time playing piano, playing chess, writing stories, reading, and rollerblading :)

Most of my teaching experience is with native Russian speakers (I lived in St. Petersburg, Russia for 5 years and Almaty, Kazakhstan for 1, and I speak Russian fluently). However, I am open to students of any native language! I teach all kinds of lessons to teens and adults - general English, IELTS, CAE, FCE, PET, and TOEFL! Here are a couple of types of lessons I teach for general English learners: - Content-based: we discuss / analyze a specific topic through English - Functional language: we learn how to DO things in English like ordering food, apologizing, complaining, expressing opinion, etc. - Grammar-based lessons: analysis and practice of grammar via texts, listening tasks, etc. ALL lessons will have a speaking component and some dedicated time for personalized feedback regarding grammar and vocabulary. ALL lessons have a visual component / presentation, the PDF copy of which I will always send you after our lessons. Looking forward to hearing your language learning goals!
