About Khanya

I’m Khanya, a fun, motivating, and patient hockey coach. I love helping kids build confidence, improve their skills, and enjoy the game even under pressure. My lessons start with games that make students comfortable and open, so they can relax, have fun, and learn effectively. Every session is about growing as a player and enjoying hockey, while feeling supported and encouraged along the way.

About the lesson

Hi there! I’m a passionate and friendly hockey coach based in Cape Town, currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science and Leisure. I’m REPSSA-registered, a qualified Group Exercise Instructor, Level 0 outdoor hockey umpire, and hold a Continuing Professional Development certificate from ETA College. With five years' experience as a goalkeeper and five years as a field player, including playing at provincial and regional level in high school, I bring both technical skill and real game experience to my sessions. I’ve been coaching for three years (Bay Primary and currently at Bishops Prep), working mainly with children aged 7 to 13, helping them build strong fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence on and off the field. My coaching style is fun, encouraging, and development-focused. I believe every child learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to each player’s needs whether it’s improving their stick skills, speed, positioning, or overall game understanding. Sessions are designed to balance learning and enjoyment, ensuring young athletes stay motivated and excited about hockey. I teach in English, Afrikaans, and a little bit of Xhosa, which helps me connect easily with players from different backgrounds. I would love to work with you :)! My first lessons with Razia went good, she's quite a fast learner for her age and she's very easy to explain the drills to. Just a few things we should work on like, holding on to the ball. Having the perfect ball control, attacking harder and shooting harder as well.

Everything went super well with Leah and Helen. They the most adorable children, learning really quick and later on by the days become really confident in their shootings, sliding through the skills drills.
