About Eleanor

While at university, I worked on English Subject open days which involved leading small group classes and discussions to give student's experience of what studying English at Cambridge was like. While at university I also volunteered with education charities in Cambridge which placed Cambridge students with disadvantaged schools in the area to help as teaching assistants - I really believe in every student being given the opportunity to learn and progress no matter their background. Prior to Coronavirus, I was meant to volunteer with a charity program working with vulnerable children this summer.

While still at secondary school I worked with a lower year student with special needs, focussing upon helping her with her literary skills and reading ability. The special needs department was so pleased with the progress the student made I was asked to volunteer for a second year with the same student. I also mentored a GCSE English Student who achieved a grade higher than he was originally predicted.

Additionally, I have competed at national level for both boxing and athletics and have been employed as a leader for the council's athletics summer holiday camp. I also hold a DBS certificate.

About the lesson

Recent Cambridge University graduate (BA English) going on to begin my Masters in October. I am very passionate about helping students to fulfill their potential and have a wide range of tutoring experience.

I am friendly and approachable and so am very encouraging of students and find it very rewarding to be able to help others enjoy English as much as I do! Having completed welfare training for committee positions held at university, I am an attentive listener and able to respond to individual's style of learning and teaching needs.

I ascribe to the Tutor's pedagogy that individual tutoring should not be lecturing or the same as tutoring a class but should be focussed upon making sure students as individual's have learned and can demonstrate their understanding. Therefore the aim is for students to be able to learn to think independently and arrive at answers themselves - giving them a greater chance at success in exams but also more broadly understanding and appreciating the subject.

I can help with exam preparation, revision technique and other areas of academic study which I have a large amount of expertise in, alongside general motivation and words of encouragement!
