About Sumei

I am a recent graduate from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, where I read Modern and Medieval Languages (French and Spanish). Spanish papers I have taken include Latin American literature, film, culture and thought, Ibero-American film, Spanish through audiovisual media, translation into and from Spanish, and introductory papers to medieval, golden age, early modern, realism, modernism and post-modernism in Hispanic literature, and Spanish linguistics. My dissertation explored 1940s Mexican Opera and its intersection with Mexican nationalism, indigenous culture and religion. In 2019 I completed my A levels in Spanish, French, and Latin, and passed all three with A*s. I gained 9 A*s (in French, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Maths, Music, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) and 3 As (in English Language, English Literature, and Further Maths) at GCSE. I started tutoring in 2018, with all my students improving by at least one grade. I offer lessons from beginner level up to A level standard. I spent my gap year working as a teaching assistant for languages and music in a prep school in London. I spent 6 months studying History and History of Art at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City as part of my year abroad.

About the lesson

Our lessons will be based around your specific needs, and will always be fun! If you are a beginner, we will focus mostly on oral comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. If you are working towards a particular qualification (11+, 13+, Common Entrance, GCSE, AS/A Level etc.), classes will be tailored towards the specifications for these. If needed, I can also set extra work to do outside of classes, and will be available for marking in between lesson times. I also offer personal statement help and guidance, as well as Oxbridge interview practice. Please feel free to message me with your particular needs. I offer tutoring at various times throughout the week and weekend, and I am able to tutor via Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, and WhatsApp. Please get in touch to discuss what works best for you.

Details

I charge £30/h, or £20/half hour. If you would like a custom time, I am willing to discuss prices. I offer a free 30 minute discussion and lesson - this is so that we can get to know each other and establish exactly what it is you want help with. If you choose to book a set of lessons in advance, 5h will cost £140, and 10h will cost £270.
