About Rohan

I recently graduated with a 1st-class degree from Christ's College, Cambridge where I studied Geography.

I mainly seek to support students studying Geography at the main school exam levels (GCSE, AS and A-Level), though can also support those studying for more unusual assessments (e.g. IB, Pre U or other) or who are undertaking a degree in the subject. I am also available to tutor English Literature, English Language and Mathematics at GCSE level.

I have considerable experience working with young people as a tutor and in similar advisory roles, right from Year 7 all the way up to undergraduate level, including helping those with learning difficulties. Various former roles have included supporting KS3-age students undergoing challenges with reading and Mathematics, teaching Geography A-Level content to those with dyslexia and working with first-year undergraduates to support them in their learning of degree-level content. I similarly worked in university access for 4 years during my time at Cambridge and thus commonly spent time supporting students from broad age ranges and regions with questions about university and the application process. Most recently I worked at Brampton Manor Academy to support students with the Oxbridge admissions tests.

I believe the key to successful tutoring is to be dynamic in one's approach to working with students, tailoring lessons and demonstrating clear preparation. This requires showing empathy and an understanding of the specific challenges and context of each individual, adapting one's style when needed, for instance through changing written work to be more discursive if a student struggles with the former. This can then be supported by developing a core understanding of the key ideas within different subjects, an acquaintance with specific methods useful for revision and practice, and developing a more holistic understanding through engaging in active discussion around key topic areas. Knowledge of what an exam requires of the student, in terms of the style and content of their answers, is crucial, such as through awareness and understanding of mark schemes. I believe through these steps it is possible to prepare students to be adaptable to lots of different exam-style questions, enabling them to succeed even when examination papers may vary in terms of the types of questions being asked or the content they draw upon.
