About Freddie

My approach strikes a balance between the rigour needed to make progress and the calm, positive environment that will make you or your child learn with enthusiasm. With a Starred First in languages from Cambridge, I bring hard work, experience and dedication. With years of teaching languages (German, Spanish) and 11+ subjects behind me, my students regularly reach their goals, be that meeting a GCSE or A-level target or simply learning for fun. I have taught both privately and in professional settings, including as a school teacher and as a freelance tutor to corporate clients. I use a range of resources and teaching techniques to create a productive and non-pressured study environment, particularly helpful to any school students seeking to regain the enthusiasm they may have lost at school. I am well acquainted with 11+ formats and a range of GCSE and A-level boards, as well as a variety of films and plays that may form part of your child's syllabus. If you book with me, you can expect a reliable and flexible service and, most importantly, a young professional who remembers the pressures of public exams well and who knows the tips and tricks that can make a daunting time much more manageable. My prices reflect a proven track record and the time I will take to plan and travel to lessons and set or mark homework. My own A-level results included high A*s in German, Spanish and English. I am able to offer trial lessons at a 50% discount. My previous achievements include: - Bringing an A level student from a predicted B to an A in her German A-level. - Working with another A level student towards an A* in his Spanish A-level. - Taking GCSE students to 7s, 8s and 9s in German and Spanish. - Helping a Year 9 Spanish student make up lost ground after a difficult school year. - Accelerating a younger German student to take their GCSE early. - Working extensively with 11+ candidates across London. My personal achievements include: - 4 A*s at A level (German, Spanish, English, Latin) - Starred First in German and Farsi at University of Cambridge. - Certified C2 fluency in Spanish at University of Cambridge Language Centre. - Numerous academic prizes at Cambridge, including a prize for the best exam results in my faculty and in my college. I have always enjoyed teaching and my experience includes numerous weeks of teaching German to teenage refugees in a Berlin high-school. I learnt to be creative in explaining and demonstrating the complexities of German grammar and pronunciation to a group of non-Europeans, keeping the lessons fun, varied and tailored to the student. I have also worked on a one-to-one basis tutoring school students in German, Spanish and English literature at GCSE level and at A-Level, helping them to overcome any difficulties they have with language and literature learning. My experience with languages and linguistics in higher education allows me to locate exactly what my students find challenging and what teaching methods will work to help them. Some struggle with grammar, some with pronunciation, some with the curriculum and some simply need to build their confidence. As a friendly, young tutor familiar with UK public examinations and with the European language framework, I can offer tailored lessons to whomever needs help - whether it be with conversation, reading, writing or listening skills. I have a bookcase full of language resources, as well as access to and knowledge of numerous online language learning resources and a good understanding of German, Spanish and Latin American culture.
