About Andrew

I have 11 years of full-time higher education experience. This makes me unique in that I am both a physicist and a chemist to PhD level, with exceptional knowledge of physics, chemistry and maths. During these 11 years I gained:
- A full degree and masters in Physics from Cambridge University
- A 2nd degree and masters in Chemistry from Newcastle University
- A PhD in Computational Chemistry/Physics from Newcastle University.
- I’ve been accepted as a full member of the Institute of Physics (IOP), and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

I’m experienced, with in-depth subject knowledge, and a talented teacher. Combining these with my genuine passion to help all my pupils succeed, makes me a master coach. But the real difference comes from the way I approach teaching.

In maths and science, starting with the core concepts is essential. I focus on building understanding, rather than memorisation through repetition. This deeper understanding is what is required to answer the more difficult questions. It also leads to easier and longer knowledge retention, much higher exam marks and plenty of confidence.

My lessons in maths, physics and chemistry differ greatly from those you attend in school. With guidance and a little tough love from myself, you’ll utilise what you already know, with methods I’ll teach you to find the answers independently. This student-led approach puts the power of learning in your hands, allowing you to perform in exams without me, full of confidence.

Everything I teach is exam board specific. I have analysed every question on every past paper for every exam board I cover. I also have previously marked thousands of scripts at university, The thousands of hours I’ve spent doing this means I’m able to offer the invaluable perspective and experience of an examiner. I will teach you all the common mistakes and how to avoid them. We will work together so you can learn how to break down tricky questions. I will show you how to answer the word-based questions as well as the calculation ones. I will teach you EXACTLY how the marking scheme works. This will provide you with the skills and know-how to confidently answer any question on any topic.

Throughout your tuition, I’ll share the most effective study, revision and exam preparation techniques. I’ll also help you overcome procrastination, relieve pre-exam nerves, and more. I constantly keep up to date with research on the lookout for anything that would be helpful to my students. I’ll explain when and how to use each resource - past paper questions, worksheets, revision guides, textbooks, flashcards, and online services. I will also give you access to all the past papers and mark schemes for your exam board, and questions by topic to practise with.

About the lesson

Online GCSE and A-level physics, chemistry, maths, further/additional maths 1-1 tutoring.
I’ve been a full-time tutor for over 10 years, and I’ve taught over 10,000 one-to-one lessons. This vast experience means I am an expert at making difficult topics easy. I’ve helped hundreds of pupils across the world achieve amazing exam results. I’m incredibly passionate and enthusiastic, but know how important it is to make you feel relaxed and comfortable. My lessons are fun, uplifting and engaging, whilst still quickly developing skills and confidence. Most of my lessons are online, but face to face lessons at my home are also possible (see FAQ).

As well as helping you get top exam results, I can also help with predicted grades, university interviews and entrance exams such as for Oxford and Cambridge. I cover all major exam boards such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, international Edexcel and Cambridge. My tuition will be specific to your exam board.

To which I found Andrew who initially tutored me in chemistry but later included physics. He helped me develop my time management and exam technique which hindered me my first time round by teaching me fun easy methods to remember the most complex of concepts. He was very accommodating for fitting in my tuition, even providing online tuition which was just as effective and provided useful notes when I was unable to travel.
