About Thomas
I lived in Taiwan speaking with locals for 2 years and spent additional 6+ years in classroom settings learning the language. Also, I have worked in professional settings with coworkers where I used Chinese to overcome language barriers, and I spent a year teaching foundational Chinese to students with no prior Chinese experience, preparing them to live abroad for 2 years. While working with my students preparing to live abroad, management at my company showcased some of my students as "prime examples" of company results to visiting guests and dignitaries. My focus on speaking and expression of thought provides students the quickest route to learning, the most motivation, and the best chance at success.

Mandarin
Chinese (as with any other language) is best learned by experiencing it, so I focus on speaking the language with students. English will be used to supplement understanding, but speaking the language is the main focus of lessons to help immerse students and promote understanding.
Lessons will consist of speaking, learning proper grammar use, and identifying vocabulary to express original thought. Learning and practicing grammar is the central focus of lessons. Students will identify topics of interest to study outside of basic learning curriculum. Character reading and writing will be introduced after establishing a basic foundation of the language to supplement understanding of the language, with Pinyin serving as the starting point to ease mental transition to the language.
