About Peter

I am an Ontario Certified Teacher with 10+ years of experience dedicated to teaching in Toronto's inner-city schools. Holding a Special Education Specialist qualification, I am deeply committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs and unlocking their full potential. -Sound out words by breaking them into their individual sounds.

-Find familiar patterns by looking for rhymes within words they already know.

-Break apart longer words by looking for prefixes and suffixes that can be "peeled away" to reveal a smaller, more familiar root word.

-Be flexible with vowels, understanding that a single vowel can make multiple sounds and learning to try different pronunciations to unlock a word.

-Recognize smaller words hidden inside bigger, more complex words.

This systematic process gives your child a reliable way to approach any word they encounter. With each success, their confidence will soar as they become an independent, self-regulated reader who can choose the right strategy for any word they encounter.
