About Maricha

María Isabel -Maricha- Martínez Sosa, Ph. D.

Dominican entrepreneur and researcher in communication, culture, education, sustainable development, diaspora, tourism, and innovation. Between the Dominican Republic and Spain, she completed formal studies in: a PhD in Communication and Cultural Industries; an Official Master's Degree in Advertising; a Specialization in University Teaching; and a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design.

Dr. Martínez Sosa has lived in Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe, accumulating a decade of teaching experience, designing and teaching training courses for companies, for Barna Management School, and for the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC). As a researcher, she has participated in local and international events on creativity, innovation, and communication, and has twice spoken at conferences on Linguistic Diversity and Inclusion at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria) and at multiple conferences and colloquia organized by APEC University. She advised research projects for Barna Management School; her research on the importance of language in the Dominican diaspora was published in a book by the German academic publisher Frank & Timme. In previous years, she published and presented at conferences on Food Heritage and Museums at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. There, she conducted her doctoral research focused on cultural communication in the Dominican Republic and its relationship with poverty, where she obtained the highest grade (Outstanding).

Throughout her career, she has received honors such as: “Outstanding Graduate” (2023) from the UNAPEC School of Arts and Communication; “Pasaporte Abierto International Tourism Journalism Award” (2021/2022); “Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award” (2019/2021); “Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative YLAI Professional Fellowship 2016” (State Department, USA); 4-time winner of the “Best Student of the Graphic Design Program” award from APEC University; as well as the “Lasallian Merit” recognition (2003) from the Colegio Dominicano De La Salle.

As an entrepreneur, she is the founder of Culturamia and Umami Creadores, projects that allowed her to be a finalist of the Cree Banreservas Acceleration Program (2022) and second place in the #LatamDigital Awards for "Best Digital Startup"; in Latin America. Since 2019, she has served as a judge on the TIC Americas regional entrepreneurship competition, an event organized by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT). She has been part of design, creativity, communications, marketing, strategy, and planning teams for clients such as CEMDOE, the Dominican Red Cross, Fiduciaria Reservas, and BANDEX, among others. She has also served as a consultant for high-impact initiatives such as the Sustainable Community Based Tourism Project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Tourism; and the Climate Finance Project of the DR's Ministry of the Environment, funded by the United Nations.

Her photos have garnered over 100 million views on Google Maps, where the Local Guide community recognized her as a “Guiding Star” in 2021 and globally highlighted her “Mapping Culture” initiative for Hispanic Heritage Day that same year.

The goal of this Creative Coaching program is to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to cultivate, both in themselves and in their work teams, this increasingly essential skill in the work context.

In a personalized way and using active learning techniques, the aim is to empower participants with skills and knowledge to face professional and personal challenges in a creative way, promoting the development of innovative and applicable solutions to their individual realities.

Theory and practice will be merged, addressing the creative process. Tailor-made exercises will be done to explain and exemplify the step-by-step process of: ideation, validation, execution, feedback, pivoting and iteration.
