About Leila
I know from experience that learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. I struggled at school, and the traditional classroom was never the place where I learnt best. Despite working hard, I didn’t achieve the grades I hoped for, and I missed out on my first-choice university. Everything changed once I reached university and discovered new ways of learning - approaches that were interactive, engaging, and tailored to how I understood information. With the right strategies, I rebuilt my confidence and my academic path. I went on to earn a first-class degree, completed a Master’s at the University of Leeds, and ultimately achieved a PhD from the University of Cambridge - something I never imagined when I opened my A-level results. This journey is the foundation of my tutoring. I know what it’s like to find learning challenging, and I know how transformative the right support can be. My goal is to help every student discover learning methods that truly work for them, build confidence in biology, and realise what they’re capable of achieving.

My teaching style is supportive, structured, and highly personalised. I focus on breaking complex biological ideas into clear, intuitive steps, using real-world examples, visual aids, and active discussion to help students truly understand the material rather than memorise it. I create tailored learning plans based on each student’s goals, strengths, and preferred learning style, and I regularly check understanding to build confidence over time. A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, though longer sessions can be arranged if needed. Each lesson usually includes a quick recap, core teaching time, guided practice, and a brief summary of key takeaways. I also provide optional follow-up tasks to reinforce learning between sessions. I hold a PhD in Biology from the University of Cambridge and have extensive experience in the life sciences. My background in research and professional scientific work enables me to explain topics clearly and accurately, from foundational concepts to more advanced material. Lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-level students, university foundation/first-year students, and adult learners looking to strengthen their understanding of biology. I work with learners of all abilities - whether aiming for top grades, catching up on tricky topics, or building overall confidence in the subject.
