About Andrew

As a Master's student in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, I bring a unique blend of academic knowledge and real-world experience to my tutoring sessions. My journey began with dual Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Sociology, which has given me a deep understanding of scientific principles and an ability to connect with students on a personal level, adapting to their individual learning styles and needs. My passion for the natural world led me to work as a zookeeper, where I was certified to handle a variety of animals, including class 1 reptiles and venomous snakes. This hands-on experience allows me to make complex biological concepts tangible and exciting. Whether it's explaining ecological principles, cellular processes, or animal behavior, I can draw on practical examples that bring the subject to life. I have a strong background in education, having worked as a supplemental instructor at a community college during the pandemic where I conducted many private and small-group tutoring sessions. My goal is not just to help you pass a test, but to foster a genuine appreciation for the subject matter and equip you with the skills to succeed academically. I look forward to helping you achieve your learning goals!

My approach to tutoring is built on the belief that the most effective learning happens when a student feels understood and the material is directly relevant to their world. With degrees in both Biology and Sociology, I don't just teach the science; I teach the student. My method is highly student-centric, focusing on your individual learning style to ensure we build a strong foundation for success.

A typical lesson begins with a quick recap of the previous session to solidify key concepts. We then dive into a new topic, often beginning with a real-world scenario from my experience as a zookeeper or my conservation studies. I use visual aids, analogies, and interactive discussions to make complex ideas tangible and memorable. We'll work through practice problems or exercises together, with plenty of time for questions. We'll wrap up each session by summarizing what we learned and outlining a clear plan for your next steps.

What truly sets me apart is my ability to connect textbook material to practical, hands-on experience. I've worked with a diverse range of animals, from venomous snakes to Komodo dragons, to birds of prey giving me a wealth of stories and examples to make topics like cellular biology, zoology, or ecological principles come alive. My time as a supplemental instructor has also honed my ability to identify common student struggles and create targeted strategies to overcome them.

I offer lessons for a wide range of students, from high school students struggling with general biology to college students in intro-level courses. I can also provide specialized support for subjects like ecology, conservation, and evolution, and help students prepare for standardized tests like AP Biology. Whether you're a student who needs to improve your grade or someone with a genuine curiosity for the natural world, I'm here to share my passion and help you thrive!
