The school advised us that our grandson (who lived with us) would not pass his SATs in Staffordshire. We knew he was capable but was not doing well at school. We hired Melissa. After an initial discussion with us to understand our needs and expectations, she then spent time with our grandson. We were impressed with the way she interacted with him, on his level and really listened to him, so we arranged for her to tutor him. At first, it was daily. She helped him with his homework, simplifying and putting it into context he understood. We could not believe how quickly he grasped concepts because he now understood what was required. His confidence grew amazingly. Simultaneously, she worked through the SATs curriculum with him. My grandson responded to her so well. There were times when he got frustrated and shouted, or refused to do it, but Melissa worked with him so patiently and spoke to him in a way that he heard and felt that he was listened to. It was not only in the house either; she encouraged him to use math when we were out, and he would ask us to play "games" while out, i.e., quick-fire times table. When my grandson sat his SATs and moved to high school, he not only passed but was placed in the 2nd top grade. We were so proud. I would not hesitate to recommend or utilize Melissa again. She gave us confidence, listened to us, and understood our worries. She also listened to our grandson, understood his fears and "roadblocks," but most importantly, she identified his needs, his learning style, and communicated with him so that he felt heard and not "thick." She adapted the learning to his style so that he could understand it, not just to take him through his SATs but to embed it in him (he can still quick-fire fractions, tables, etc.), was patient throughout the coaching, recognizing his fears, frustration, and anger as he encountered problems, but guided him through it in ways that he understood. She is amazing.
Melissa supported me throughout my Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner qualification, as well as with my Maths and English. She explained everything clearly, broke tasks down into manageable steps and always adapted her support to suit how I learned best.
Her knowledge, patience and encouragement helped me understand difficult topics, improve my written work and feel much more confident in my own abilities. Melissa was approachable, reliable and genuinely invested in helping me succeed. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for supportive, personalised tutoring.See more recommendations
