About Desiree

My name is Dezi, and I currently live in Las Vegas, NV. I am from Cleveland, OH but moved here in 2022. I have been a teacher for 6 years. I have two Master's Degrees in Education and Administration with an endorsement in Special Education. I am a licensed educator in Washington State, Ohio, and Nevada. I enjoy working with people and helping them understand new concepts.
I really struggled in school growing up because I always felt so bored by the learning in school. I was the chatty student, so I got into trouble often, but I couldn't help myself. I try to teach students in a way that I would find fun and engaging. I also want my students to be honest with me if they are struggling to be engaged and need a brain break, or if they aren't understanding a concept. I am very patient with my students because as a student, I was too scared to speak up and that held me back from academic success. I never want my students to feel that way.

About the lesson

I enjoy engaging students in the learning, by making the learning interactive and fun. I am trained in GLAD, which is meant to get students in unique ways. I also believe that everyone learns a little differently, so if one thing is not working, I will find a way to change the lesson and find a new way of teaching it.
A typical lesson plan for me is that I would explain the WHY of the lesson. What is the point? Why do you need to know this? Then I will explain what the student will need to be able to do to prove they have understood the lesson. I will then begin to teach the instruction through interactive ways. I will then do an activity with the students to help engage them, then I will have the students try it on their own to make sure they understand what was taught and have successfully proven it.
I teach students mainly Kindergarten through 8th grade, but I have many skills in finances and can teach algebra and geometry. I am also familiar with Common Core State Standards and the strategies that are used to teach these standards.
