About Emily
I am a recent graduate of the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English Literature and Sociology, and minoring in Education. I achieved First Class Honors in English Literature during my postgraduate study. My greatest achievement during this period was my Honors Research Dissertation that demonstrates the application of English literature to the real world, for which I achieved full marks. I am dedicated to educating a range of people about the significance, and practical applications of English Literature with an emphasis on contemporary and worldly knowledge. In particular, I believe that the critical understanding of texts is growing ever more important with the rising accessibility to knowledge through media channels. Strong literacy skills will help you to navigate the information that you receive every day through social media, the news, and any other modes of communication.

I take a practical approach to English tutoring that acknowledges the different learning needs of students. Lesson content and length will vary based on student requirements but tend to be a minimum of 30 minutes and maximum of 2 hours. The outcome of lessons will provide students with critical thinking skills and the ability to engage with a variety of texts that include, but are not limited to, novels, films, policy documents, and newspaper articles. I highly encourage student engagement and participation in lessons and this will be reflected in the set workload and day-to-day lesson structure. I can provide lessons for an age range between 13 and 18 for secondary school students and for those in their first year of tertiary education.
