About Joanne
I am a Master of Publishing and Communications student at the University of Melbourne. I completed my Bachelor of Arts at the same university, majoring in English and Classics. I went on to do an honours year in English, receiving first-class honours. Before that, I achieved an ATAR of 98.15.
I also write and edit, and have contributed to student, national, and international literary magazines.

Lessons will be one to one and a half hours long, depending on the frequency and student requirements. I have tutored high school English and Latin, and done volunteer English tutoring to new migrants.
I prioritise responding to student strengths, weaknesses, and other needs. I love these subjects and aim to develop interest and confidence in students.
For older students (sitting VCE/HSC), I am happy to read over assignments and practice essays/responses and give detailed comments, then go over these with students followed by prompts for ways to further develop arguments and critical viewpoints. This might be on a regular or irregular basis, and can be for all English subjects, Classics, and Latin. I have found this to be an effective way to teach and learn essay writing skills.
For Latin students, I spend time breaking down complex grammar ideas, followed by going over exercises or texts for translation.
For English students, I discuss the ideas presented in texts with students, helping to develop a knowledge and understanding of English literature. I also help develop narrative and argumentative writing skills through explaining structures and ideas, followed by exercises.
Can be held online or in person in Inner East Melbourne.
