About Colleen
I’m an Alberta-certified teacher and award-winning writer with over 20 years of combined experience in education, marketing, and communications. I hold a B.A. in English and a B.Ed. from the University of Lethbridge, and I’ve taught in Alberta’s highly respected public school system as well as abroad in Taiwan. Passionate about clear, concise, and compelling communication, I help students develop writing and speaking skills that are both academically strong and meaningful in the real world. I also bring a deep understanding of ADHD, giftedness, and twice-exceptional learners, creating calm, structured lessons that adapt to each student’s strengths. Students describe me as patient, organized, and inspiring; I am a teacher-tutor who helps them feel confident, capable, and proud of their progress.

Each session begins with a clear learning objective, followed by guided practice and reflection. We enhance reading comprehension through the study of reading strategies, short texts, literary devices, story theory, text annotation, and discussion. I can provide free independent online exercises that provide instant feedback and reinforce new skills between lessons.
In writing, I provide close coaching at the start to help students learn to craft clear, effective sentences, paragraphs, essays, and stories. Then, I guide them toward increasingly independent writing practice with continued feedback and support. I use grammar and punctuation practice, essay organizers, mentor essays, and modeled examples to show how strong writing develops from ideas to polished, persuasive expression.
Designed for upper elementary to university students and adult learners, my lessons foster clarity and confidence as students develop their authentic writing voice.
