About Lorraine
Lorraine Hellwig (*1993) is an award-winning European portrait photographer and multidisciplinary artist working across image, text, painting, video, and installation. She describes herself as a NEO NEO DADAIST, emerging from portrait and reportage photography to explore how a camera-based practice — now freed from its former technical necessity — can evolve into a conceptual tool for examining the shifting relationship between individual, culture, and system.
In 2018, she published the first version of Y A MANIFESTO, a long-term investigation into digital intimacy, self-performance, and contemporary questions of identity. Her work combines photography with participatory and research-based methods, often creating spaces where conversation, portraiture, and collective reflection become part of the artwork itself.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Pera Museum (2022), Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2019), and Buro Stedelijk (2024). She is the recipient of the City of Munich Funding Award for Photography (2024) and the Gute Aussichten – Young German Photography Award (2019).
Lorraine is also the founder of FAKE FACTORY, a platform for collaborations between design, art, and activism. Alongside her artistic practice, she has recently participated in several international residencies and has led workshops in Palermo, Paris, and Stuttgart, helping young artists and communities develop their voice through collaborative and socially engaged projects.

We will clarify your artistic goals and help you shape the artist you are — and the one you want to present to the world. Bring your photographic work, and together we will edit, structure, and refine it into a coherent portfolio. We will also work on conceptual development and writing texts about your practice, whether for applications, exhibitions, or publications.
In a typical lesson, you will present your work and receive personalized feedback and assignments designed to challenge and expand your artistic approach. The sessions are focused on helping you develop your visual language, discover the next step in your studies or career, and prepare a portfolio that is ready for professional presentation.
My teaching combines critical discussion, practical exercises, and conceptual development. I focus on helping you identify what makes your work unique and how to communicate it clearly — both visually and through writing.
The lessons are for photography students, emerging artists, and anyone preparing portfolios for art schools, exhibitions, grants, or professional practice.
Sessions can be adapted to different levels, from beginners developing their first projects to advanced artists refining long-term work.
