About Alex

During my secondary school years in Germany, I began tutoring students from Year 7 to Year 12. As a bachelor’s student, I worked as a university teaching assistant, tutoring bachelor’s students in maths and statistics, for which I received a tutoring award for each of my classes (three in total).

My exceptionally deep understanding of maths allowed me to complete my
- BSc Economics at the University of Bonn (top 3 German university for economics) three semesters faster than the average,
- MSc Finance and Econometrics at Queen Mary University of London as the best student in my cohort,
- MSc Statistics at the LSE with the highest grade possible in all courses.

Just 1.5 years after graduating, I secured a position as a senior quantitative analyst at a top global financial services firm in London, where I build and maintain financial and mathematical models on a daily basis.

Driven by my passion for helping students, I founded Maths Angel in London, for which I have created the entire curriculum and content. Maths Angel combines maths videos, revision cards, exercises, and the most advanced AI to individually help students 24/7 in maths as effectively as currently possible.

About the lesson

The two key factors for outstanding maths results are:
1) A strong foundation
2) A deep understanding

Through my teaching experience - from helping struggling Year 7 students to those now pursuing Economics PhDs at the University of Oxford - I’ve found that most challenges in maths can be traced back to these two essential factors.

Foundational gaps make it difficult to grasp advanced topics, as maths builds on earlier concepts. However, even top students who excel the basics may struggle to reach their full potential without guidance and feedback on their creative ideas. Outstanding results require not just understanding the "how" but also the "why" behind mathematical concepts.

When working with a student, I focus on filling foundational gaps as we go along, which leads to quicker progress compared to starting with a full assessment. After that, depending on the student’s goals and motivation, we can explore topics in more depth. Obtaining a deeper understanding isn’t just for achieving top grades but also for solving problems independently and developing a strong sense of maths, which is highly valuable for future careers in fields like data analysis, consulting, and financial services.
