About Ethan
As a Harvard PhD Student with a B.S from the College of William and Mary (Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude), I know exactly how to help students with their STEM courses and standardized test preparation. I have a track record of successfully helping students with their courses and their standardized exams. I most commonly help students with prepare for their SAT, ACT, ISEE/SSAT exams as well as with their AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry and python courses.
One distinct advantage that I have over other tutors is that my knowledge is not just theoretical. I have taught introductory and upper level biology courses, and served as the leader of the world class 2017 William & Mary iGEM team (#2 in the world). I have won awards for mathematical modeling and biology, and have published several scientific papers in peer reviewed journals. To become a PhD student at Harvard has required me to succeed on many different high stakes standardized tests, so I know exactly how and what subjects to study.
My standardized test preparation process begins with a free diagnostic exam and phone consultation, followed by an initial lesson to work on weaknesses in the students preparation. Tailored assignments are given, and concepts and questions are reviewed at subsequent meetings. I will never ask students to buy any additional books or courses, as I firmly believe that best and only way to prepare for standardized tests is to practice using actual questions from the tests themselves. In general students who prepare for me for around a month see improvements of around 15 percentile points, which is equivalent to around 4-5 points on the ACT and around 150 points on the SAT.

Many high performing students run into real trouble on their standardized tests because they’ve falsely been lead to believe that the standardized tests assess their knowledge of complicated concepts. In truth, standardized tests asses very simple concepts which are presented in a convoluted manner. As a tutor, I help students get into the mind of the test maker and see what test questions are really asking. This enables them to answer more quickly and correctly, improving their score.
For reference, here are the last six students I have tutored, as well as their score improvements:
- S.N: Total SAT: 1230 to 1360 [5 days of preparation, 2 one hour lessons]
- R.G. Total SAT 1310 to 1470 [3 weeks of preparation, 6 one hour lessons]
- J.S: Total SAT 1310 to 1420 [4 weeks of preparation, 5 one hour lessons]
- A.S: Total SAT: 1310 to 1420 [5 weeks of preparation, 5 one hour lessons]
- S.K: ACT Math: 22 to 26 [8 days of preparation, 3 one hour lessons]
- M.G: ACT Composite: 22 to 25 [2 weeks of preparation, 6 two hour lessons]
I'm very quick to respond to inquiries and have plenty of time available to tutor students, I really love to teach and am very flexible in terms of my tutoring "style". Please feel free to contact me if you want to set up a lesson or if you have any questions at all.
