Post-College Experience:

Worked as a teacher in Taiwan via a Fulbright grant

- Collaborated alongside 3 co-teachers to create and execute engaging lessons for 320+ 1-6 grade public school students

- Created and taught a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural curriculum for a Kindergarten class (25 students) and an independent English club of (8 advanced 6th grade students)

- Founded an English club where adult community members practiced language skills and expand their knowledge on culture and current events; partnered with a local cafe and library to provide meeting spaces and opportunities to showcase progress

High school experience:

- Tutored 6th graders that were having difficult times in their respective Mandarin classes; students saw significant improvements in comprehension and writing ability

- Offered free lessons to elementary school students involved in the program City Squash; students developed an interest to continue studying the language outside of the classroom

About the lesson

I generally have experience with younger students ranging from grades 3-8. These students are typically beginners. Therefore, my lessons are tailored accordingly, in which I focus on teaching essential vocabulary and grammar structures that students who are just starting to learn Chinese would encounter. I use materials from my own study courses and often refer to various passages and exercises from them. As I have mostly worked with kids, my teaching approach is linear and easy to follow. Additionally, it is centered on engaging students in such a way that fosters a desire to continue learning beyond our lessons. Students will be introduced to various modes of linguistic learning, will learn Mandarin's day-to-day applicability, and gain valuable insights into the language's rich surrounding culture.
