About Aly
I am currently in my final year of my PhD at the Universitat de Barcelona, in health economics. I studied both my undergraduate and MSc in Economics in Ireland, at University College Dublin. I have extensive teaching experience for the last 8 years as I was a lecturer to first-yera university students in Spanish in Political Economy as well as having been a TA (teaching assistant) in Principles of Macro and Microeconomics to undergraduate students where I led seminars during my MSc, and I loved the experience of teaching a class of students. I also have experience tutoring Spanish and Mathematics on an individual level. I am passionate about Spanish and public policy, for this reason, I am pursuing a career of research and living in Barcelona! I am fluent in Spanish, studying it by myself after college and having worked in Bilbao in 2019 in a research institute for 3 months. I am passionate about sharing fun and interesting methods for learning a language when you do not have the current ability to live in a Spanish-speaking country. I also love math and economics, so I am offering all three subject areas for whatever you may need! Unfortunately as I live in Barcelona, all my classes will be offered online but this does not mean it will be of a lower quality! :)

If you learned Spanish all throughout school but do not feel like you can speak comfortably, no te preocupes! This was my case as well, until I decided in 2016 to start talking to an online tutor once a week and with a lot of hours practicing conversation, watching telenovelas, and listening to reggaeton I reached fluency. I want to share these methods with other students struggling with the language because for me, conversation practice was what pushed me from a low level, to intermediate purgatory, and eventually to fluency. I have experience tutoring students in Spanish from ages 13 up to university level. I like to base my classes on the individual needs of each student :) I am super flexible and want to make sure the students are content with what they are learning and feel they are making progress as each class goes on, as well as enjoying the material. Homework involves listening to podcasts, watching Spanish series, and listening to music!
