3 core skills are essential to success in the academic humanities at all levels: Critical Thinking, Essay Writing, and Memorisation of important facts.
My tutoring shall focus on all 3 in the following ways:
1) Critical Thinking. To engage with the humanities, we need to be able to reflect on the world around us. Analysing sources, comparing different accounts of events, considering biases of data, and expressing limitations of others' work are all essential elements to think more critically.
2) Essay Writing. Having overhauled our way of thinking about things that we observe in the world, we will look at expressing ourselves effectively. This element is extremely personalised and flexible. You will provide me with previous written work that you have submitted at school or university, and we will work through it together line-on-line, paragraph-on-paragraph, picking up on trends, strengths and weaknesses that can be implemented to essays generally
3) Memorisation. We have learnt to write and how to think, but for exams there are things we need to *just know*. Using my experience as a UK Schools' Memory Champion, you will learn effective and frankly shocking memorisation techniques that will ensure that your revision process becomes more personalised, fun, and successful.
